… And Now Jay-Z Sued …

… And Now Jay-Z Sued …

According to sources like BET and TMZ, Hov is being slammed with a new lawsuit that claims he was negligent in paying worker’s compensation insurance during a three-month span back in 2009.

TMZ got a hold of the lawsuit from the Workers Compensation Board of New York, stating that “the insurance was supposed to cover domestic employees in Jay-Z’s house … cooks, maids, drivers … that sort of thing,” reported the network.

That three-month lapse cost Jay-Z $18,000, which the New York-based court made him pay back to the WCB.

“According to the docs, it was only a momentary lapse,” stated TMZ. “After the three-month period in 2009, Jay-Z acquired the right insurance and the problem was resolved … with the exception of the outstanding $18,000 owed.”

BET.com wrote, that “a source is refuting the claim that Jay-Z put his employees’ health and safety in jeopardy when he missed the payments by saying he never missed them at all and that the $18,000 is a minor clerical error.”

It is unspecified whether the hip-hop mogul has had a chance to pay back his debt yet, although the suit should sort out that and the alleged minor clerical error.

Jay-Z doesn’t seem like the type of flaky rapper who wouldn’t pay his bills and allow his employees to work uninsured. He’s about to be a new daddy for crying out loud!

Kanye Throws a Fan Out of His Concert

Kanye Throws a Fan Out of His Concert

Being a diva is one thing, but throwing out a fan out of a concert over a mere business card can be considered re-defining the word ‘diva’. At his recent “Watch the Throne” concert at the Tacoma Dome, Washington, Kanye West threw a hissy fit and eventually caused a fan to be kicked out of the concert.

It all started when a tiny card was thrown to the stage by a fan. Kanye picked up the card and yelled:

“Whose card is this?”

And then he continued:

“We risking our lives up here. You can’t go throwing sh** that we gonna slip on.”

You’d think he would stop after the fit. No. In a typical Kanye West move, the rapper told the crowd:

“I see it come from that direction.  Unless one person raises their hand and says ‘I’m the one who did it’, all that whole section gotta go.

The fan manned up and eventually got thrown out of the building.

Well at least Kanye West escaped ‘death’.

So what do you think about the incident, SoJones readers? Do you think Kanye West was crazy to flip over a business card, or do you think he did the right thing by kicking his fan out of the concert?

Here’s the video of what happened:

Drake to Work On Justin Bieber’s New Album!

Drake to Work On Justin Bieber’s New Album!

Justin Bieber and the hip hop world are becoming inseparable. After Usher, he had enlisted Drake and Kanye West for his next album titled Believe that will be released in summer 2012. (Read: Drake Skypes with Bieber)

Drake announced that he will start working on Justin Bieber’s album in January. The Canadian rapper made the statement at the Stevie Wonder’s House Full of Toys benefit concert in Los Angeles last weekend.

Drake shared the stage with Bieber at the Power 106′s Cali Christmas Jam 2011 concert last Friday, where they performed their duet performance of “Trust Issues”. The song was released last summer by Drake, and the original version features Drake both singing and rapping. Bieber then did a remix on the track, censored the lyrics (to Drake’s objection) and eventually brought the two together.

“Trust Issues” was not included in Drake’s album as he told the press that it was just a fun project.

Well now that Bieber comes in the picture, will it still be just “for fun”? Are you anticipating this collaboration, SoJones readers? Discuss!

Jay-Z to Play United Way Benefit Concert

Jay-Z to Play United Way Benefit Concert

Jay-Z has announced that he will be playing two benefit shows at Carnegie Hall on February 6 and 7 to help raise funds for the United Way’s scholarship program, according to AllHipHop.com. It will mark the first-ever solo hip-hop performance at the famous concert venue.

“Jay-Z says performing at Carnegie Hall is a big deal for hip-hop, and he’s happy to bring the genre to greater heights,” reported the Associated Press.

“Any time that I get a chance to expand and broaden the reach of hip-hop is a great thing for me on a personal level,” said Jay-Z. “I feel like they bent the rules so that it could make sense for me [to play] right now, but I’ll take it.”

In addition to helping out the United Way, proceeds will also go toward Jay-Z’s Shawn Carter Foundation non-profit organization in an attempt to reduce the high school dropout rate in New York City.

“Education is super important,” Jay-Z told the Associated Press. “I don’t have a high school diploma or a college diploma, but still for me to articulate, I had to have some form of schooling to articulate my thoughts.”

There was a ton of blue-collar jobs that no longer exist, and the gap is wider than ever,” he continued. “The kids need to really know that and be prepared, to really succeed in this new America they are going to need an education. Not everyone can be entertainers and hit the lottery – that’s what I call it.”

The tickets range in price from $500 to $2,500 per ticket, and are geared toward wealthier people and private philanthropists, according to the Times. They go on sale Dec. 12.

“It’s every artist’s dream to play a venue as legendary as Carnegie Hall,” said Jay-Z. “The fact that I can use the arts and my talent to benefit the education of the next generation of artists, entrepreneurs and great thinkers makes for a legendary night.”

Streetwear Year In Review: Brooklyn Bandit + GIVEAWAY!

Streetwear Year In Review: Brooklyn Bandit + GIVEAWAY!

Brooklyn Bandit or BKB has been a consistent brand developing its amazing products for its customers. SoJones has been covering BKB since a year ago and we must say the brand is heading to greatness. Check what’s going on with BKB:

Hi Brooklyn Bandit, how’s 2011 been? What’s up with the brand?
2011 has been great, and our crew is ready to take on 2012 with more experience, and some really creative ideas that we’re excited to present the Street wear industry with! We’ve started to explore more than just denim and cut n sew in the past year, and we plan to add that into our future collections.

What has been your best seller in 2011?
The Love over $ Tee and crew necks sold very well. All our stores were selling out consistently, as were we. With money being so emphasized in a lot of our current lifestyles, I think people liked to see something being put above money. There is a lot of issues in this world that can be solved with having love for our own kind, and that design puts all that into perspective. Show love it’s the Brooklyn way!

What are your brand’s milestones or highlights during 2011?
The entire year was a learning process, and we continued to strive to be better and grow. We had a chance to meet a few cool celebs and just people that wear the brand, and that to me is the best highlight. I was walking down 48th street in Manhattan and saw a guy wear BKB jeans, and seen a lot people on the train and random places reppin’ BKB tee’s.. That is a great feeling to see that something that was just an idea a few years back is actually in motion with people wearing the brand. In addition to that, we dropped our first collection of tee’s, and we made our first Jacket (Metal storm) which has been flying of the shelfs.

What do you have in store for 2012? Any sneak peeks?
For 2012, we’re going to be re-releasing some classics such as the Manilas, and Friscos. Originally we had made very few pieces of those jeans and not everyone got a chance to get themself a pair, so this time around we will have plenty in sock this time around. Also, we’re going to do more cut and sew tops, as well as graphics. We’re always trying out new things so you never know what we will drop.

Which celebrity do you think deserves ‘the most fashionable’ title in 2011?
I think Pharell Williams is up there on the list. His style is not too over the top but it still speaks volumes. I’m excited to see if he drops any new collections in the new year.

Get your BKB fix at www.brooklynbandit.com and follow on Twitter @bkbanditjeans.

Drake Fires Hip Hop Since 1978

Drake Fires Hip Hop Since 1978

Drake’s been on fire these days; releasing a new album last month, outwardly dissing social media, maintaining beef with Ludacris and now firing his management team, Hip Hop Since 1978.

“Drake just felt like there were too many hands in his pockets,” an anonymous source told the New York Post. “He was getting pulled in too many different directions.”

Hip Hop Since 1978, comprised of industry moguls like Cortez Bryant, Kyambo “Hip Hop” Joshua, Al Brach, Gee Roberson and Kinky “B” Ellerbee, is still managing big hip-hop names like Lil Wayne, Kanye West, T.I., Nicki Minaj, Just Blaze and Young Jeezy to name a few.

The Hip Hop Since 1978 team was not the only ones who were given the axe. Dana Sims and Robert Gibbs of International Creative Management, Drake’s booking agents, were also fired due to differing business opinions, according to BET.com.

In the two management teams’ place, Drake hired Brent Smith (Snoop Dogg’s rep) of the William Morris Endeavor to represent him, and he is still signed to Cash Money Records, according to AllHipHop.com.

“The Canadian rapper’s break with his business team is consistent with recent moves he has made to surround himself with the close-knit, largely Toronto-based crew of friends and associates who have been by his side since he was just a mixtape artist,” reported BET.com. “Oliver El-Khatib, a Toronto native and member of Drake’s October’s Very Own crew, began taking on management duties for Drake earlier this year.”

In addition to the Drake tug-of-war, the same anonymous source said that conflicts between the rapper’s original Canadian management team and Hip Hop Since 1978 have arisen. “His team fromCanada is trying to wrestle back control,” claimed the source. “He may go back to them to streamline things.”

Hip-Hop Blog Falsely Censored for One Year

Hip-Hop Blog Falsely Censored for One Year

Last year, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security took over a hip-hop music blog along with 81 others due to an alleged copyright infringement that ended over false allegations. According to CNET, the government abandoned the suit on Dec. 8 after learning that the charge had been exaggerated to prove an anti-piracy point.

The seizure of the music blog, found at DaJaz1.com, was a feeble attempt by Homeland Security to curb piracy over the internet, reported CNET, except that it was done in a shady way.

“Intellectual property crimes are not victimless,” Attorney General Eric Holder said at the time of the seizure. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director John Morton added, “Today, we turn the tables on these Internet thieves.”

“It turns out that Holder’s and Morton’s claims appear to have been, well, exaggerated,” wrote CNET.

“What’s unusual here is that normally,U.S.law strongly discourages efforts to censor Web sites before a full trial can be held,” CNET continued. “But in the DaJaz1 case, a series of allegations of dubious reliability offered in an ICE affidavit were enough to censor a popular music blog — which had been featured on MTV News a few months earlier — for over a year.”

As it turns out, the four songs by Jamie Foxx, Chris Brown, Nelly and Reek Da Villian that were featured in the affidavit by ICE agent Andrew Reynolds, were actually sent to Dajaz1’s editor (Splash) for promotional use, reported CNET.

Apparently ICE kept the case under wraps by “getting extension after extension from the court under seal without showing me any papers whatsoever,” partner at the Fenwick and West law firm Andrew Bridges told CNET Dec. 8. Bridges is representing Dajaz1 pro bono. “Why did the government feel the need to keep secret the fact of its repeated extensions of time to file the forfeiture proceeding?” he asked.

The Dajaz1 blog is back in its owner’s possession, and features a temporary disclaimer that says it will be back shortly, according to CNET. In addition to this, the site demonstrates a video with a censorship petition that will be sent to ICE.

Check out the website and let Splash know what you think of the whole thing at: www.DaJaz1.com

How Has Urban Clothing Evolved Over The Years?

Nowadays, urban clothing is identified with hip hop and the culture. It is mostly worn by young people who are involved in things like extreme sports. This type of clothing is always bold and fresh and expresses the hip hop generations views. It is not enough to look urban the designs have to be bold and in your face. The fact is there is much concern that these images are reflecting badly and people are wearing them to project the wrong kind of image. Now newer companies like Vokal are stepping in and modifying urban wear and including fleece loungewear and velour's, denim and bright athletic jerseys. Baby Phat has a different approach. They create a blend of hip hop and uptown metro fashions.

It is a more refined urban look that trend setters like and in this way cashing in on the nature of consumers. Of course this urban wear is for people with money who want to make an impression. If on the other hand you don't have that kind of moolah lying around you can opt for wholesale urban clothing. Urban wear designs change quickly and manufacturers have to stay ahead to survive. They will sell large amounts of designs at very low prices. So clothing merchants could buy up the large and medium lots and sell them in bulk, on the internet. They can sell them at larger discounts then most urban clothing stores. The exact meaning of the urban look is hard to explain. It depends on the geographical location and musical styles of the individual.

So the term "urban", has no real specific meaning. In the U.S. urban culture is directly linked with rap and hip hop. The brands Akademiks, Rocawear and Ecko are urban labels that are known for designing with the culture and roots in mind. Many rappers have founded these labels on their own putting their lifestyles directly into their clothing and accessories. In the U.K. and Europe there is a stronger residence of the New York hip hop of the eighties. As the UK culture has evolved so has the urban look. Then there is Casual Street Fashion. There is a theme here that urban clothing is not dictated by catwalks and fashion experts. Urban can best be described as created by people reflecting their mood and attitude on those that wear it.

As we know at one time the baggy clothes were all the rage. However, that look has evolved and is now portraying more stylish versions with brighter colors and newer patterns. The fact is that if you want to dress hip hop you can use clothing from every genre and still meet the urban clothing directive. The baggy look is just one of the styles that are part of this evolution. Now it seems to have evolved into colourful, shiny and flashy items that are being produced by major urban manufacturers. The changes in urban clothing really have no limits so it opens up designers and stars to new and different possibilities. Many urban manufacturers are taking the tastes from society and adapting them to the many styles around the world.

This has led to the urban design industry. There is one rule to keep in mind when you are trying to imitate the urban style and that is that there are no rules. You can put in any piece of clothing from all the clothing styles into an outfit and make a new wardrobe that will match the criteria of the hip hop nation. Adaptations from other industries and the inception of baggy clothes are just the two of the integrations. There have also been new clothing concepts into the industry. One of the key concepts is using shiny, eye catching and flashy design patterns in outfits to enhance the traditional urban clothing styles. Hip Hop fashion has become trendy looking and somewhat controversial. There has been a slight decline in the urban clothing sales but that is due to the industry. However, it will never disappear. The difference between a few years ago and now is evolution. Glamour emerged and the male R&B hip hop icons took over and the ghetto fabulous looks. It is inevitable that more mixes will appear as the years go by.

Busiswe Zakwe, was arrested on suspicion of swindling investors. It is claimed she promised them they would benefit from ticket sales if they brought an R. Kelly tour to the country in 2005. The concerts never happened, but Zakwe allegedly kept the money and deposited some of it into the star's bank account. But the singer denies any knowledge of the incident, and insists he doesn't even know who Zakwe is.

Method Man – All I Need (Demo Version)

Man oh man. Remember this classic? Ofcourse you do. Well, before the final version with MJB was layed down Method Man recorded a demo version. A whole different vibe, one verse from Meth with two females talking that sexy stuff before and after. This is exactly the purpose of a demo record, Meth recorded it and after a few listens and MJB’s opinion the record was then transformed into the classic we know it as now and went on too live on Meth’s 1994 album “Tical”. I love when stuff like this pops up out the vault, it gives you more of an insight into how records are created. Anything Meth related and I am down.

A Complete History Pertaining To Urban Clothing

Urban Clothing
constitutes some of the nine all-inclusive pieces of hip hop majesty. This design was a impressive practice of dressing, which produced from African-America, Caribbean-American and even Latino innocence circulating New York.

Urban clothing is additionally tied to hip hop songs which began in 1975 in Bronx in New York first and foremost through the influence of Jamaican immigrants. With the use of two turntables and a microphone, the Jamaican exercised disc-jockeys which gave birth to beloved music. The pioneers of disc-jockeys where Clive ''Hercules'' Campbell, or 'Kool Herc'' who built music out of break beats and Theodore 'grand Wizard' Livingstone who identified 'scratching sounds' from a turntable. These 2 fellows generated the source of rap music which has cultivated to what we delight as street music and gained so much publicity.

However along the passage, urban culture has been enriched by various cities' like Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Atlanta, Miami Los Angeles, Brooklyn cultures. As the rap music grew, so did the urban clothing. This precedent has become more and more popular getting much talked about acceptance. However the trend has witnessed changes over the years. This fashion of gear was first worn in the 1980s by big hip hop icons such as Run-DMC, Big Daddy Kane and LL cool J. The outline was characterized by an assortment of rings, jewellery, gold necklaces which are lately known as 'bling bling'. Big glasses and sneakers also formed a large portion of the frame. Urban artist also wore Jheri curls or hi-top fade haircuts. The black pride advance was no doubt one of the most influential means of the hip hop framework in the 1980s. It was symbolized by African chains, dreadlocks, black-green- and red clothes.

The urban clothing of the 1980s reflected the established African culture developed by rappers like MC Hammer. The 1990s came with a change in hip hop music which led to the change in the urban clothing. Singers like Left Eye of TLC called attention to colored apparel and baseball caps. Street gangs and prison uniforms also favorably inclined the hip hop attire. Baggy pants wear was influenced by the prison inmates 'fashion'. Normally the inmates had their belts confiscated by prison wardens and because their uniforms barely fitted them, they were reduced to pulling up their pants every now and then. Cities have also been helpful to the increase of the urban street clothing with preference of some wear over others. New York favored hooded clothes and timberland boots while west coast went for big flannel shirts and converse sneakers and the south liked gold teeth style.

In mid 1990s, urban clothing brands were enriched by the Mafioso fashion characterized by hats and alligator skin shoes promoted by stars like the Notorious B.I.G and Jay-Z. At the end of 1990s the taste of hip hop stars changed to brilliant, flashy suits and platinum jewellery which took the place of gold and gave urban clothing a new feature. During this duration, several clothing lines like FUBU, Sean John and Karl Kani were rolled out and through the sale of hip hop clothes earned millions of dollars. Over the cycle urban clothing tastes for males and females have modernized.

Though individuals have kept the old hip hop clothing custom, womenfolk have embraced tighter jeans and gleaming appearances. Women have contributed a feminine touch to urban clothing by sporting lip gloss and make up. At this time the trend goes apart from clothes to include giant tags made of gold or other high-priced material dangling from chains, large eye glasses and famed haircuts all of which emphasize affluence and prestige. Is Jay-Z Profiting from Occupy Wall Street?

Is Jay-Z Profiting from Occupy Wall Street?

In what surely seems like a a cruel joke, it’s being reported by Business Insider that Jay-Z is going to potentially be profiting off of the Occupy Wall Street protest that has captured the heart of the 99 percent. Through his Rocawear clothing imprint, Jay has plastered the Occupy Wall Street message on a T-shirt that’s currently available for pre-order via the brand’s website. Thus far, there are no plans of distributing any of the earnings from it to the movement that he’s capitalizing off of. As a member of the top 1 percent, it seems like Jay-Z’s 99 problems involve the other 99 percent. What do you guys think, should Jay-Z be profiting from a movement that is looking to expose the disparity between rich and poor? Rocawear

Drake’s Producer Noah “40″ Shebib Shares Stories Behind Their Most Personal Records

Drake’s Producer Noah “40″ Shebib Shares Stories Behind Their Most Personal Records

GQ’s Sean Fennessey did a real eye opening interview with Drake’s longtime friend, engineer and producer, Noah “40″ Shebib. This fellow Canadian has been with Drizzy for pretty much his whole rise from the bottom to the top of hip-hop.

In the interview 40 discusses how they first met and linked up musically. He also talks in detail about the backstories behind some of their most personal records and the  influences that made So Far Gone, Thank Me Later and Take Care.

GQ: It just seemed like a modern innovation on the sound. It makes sense that’s what you love. You can hear it. What about “The Calm”?
Noah “40″ Shebib:
He rapped that story out a couple times. Lyrics can be interpreted as you want, but his life is transparent through his lyrics, and it’s pretty brutally honest and it’s scary how much is there. He explained the story a couple times, briefly about this album. It was a crazy, crazy night. That was when we were living in an apartment building in Toronto, downtown, Apartment 1503 15 Fort York Boulevard. He says 1503, two couches and paintings, and he goes on to talk about that apartment where we did all that music, on the new album. He was distraught one night and showed up with $1,000 worth of champagne and I’m cussing at him because we’re all broke and trying to make this shit work! Meanwhile, he’s renting Phantoms and shit. It’s all documented. He shows up with all the liquor and he’s drinking and we’re trying to start working and he gets into a real argument with his uncle, and he went out on the balcony and started yelling at his uncle and I’d never seen him that distraught or emotionally beat up about something. He just came back in the room and said, I need to rap. Make me something. In 45 minutes, I made “The Calm” and he wrote those bars as I made the beat. Over the next five or six hours, that record unfolded in its entirety.

GQ: Tell me about some specific songs on So Far Gone. “Bria’s Interlude” has always fascinated me. Drake doesn’t even appear on the song.

Drake Actually Looks Forward to His Album Leaks: “It’s Only Gonna Help Me”

Drake Actually Looks Forward to His Album Leaks: “It’s Only Gonna Help Me”

Drizzy has been taking his album leak in stride. He already addressed it briefly on Twitter. Much like J. Cole, he’s thankful it leaked with only 8 days left before Take Care’s official release. Back in October, Billboard actually presented Drake with this very scenario and asked his thoughts on his albums leaking early.

“I look forward to leaks-knock on wood. I shouldn’t probably, but I do. Like I said, if it’s a reasonable leak, I look forward to it. We’re all sitting here in the studio like, “Oh man the night this leaks, it’s gonna be so crazy!”  People talk about, “Are you gonna go on the Internet? Are you gonna stay off the Internet? What are you gonna do?”

40 protects the music really well, and I think God willing I get like the same thing I’m talking about, like a 10 day leak. And that’s something I’d be extremely excited about because I feel like if people get the opportunity to live with the music for a week before they go buy it, it’s only gonna help me, not hurt me. So I’m looking forward to hearing the feedback from everyone-that’s gonna be an exciting night when it comes out.

Billboard: J. Cole’s album “Cole World: A Sideline Story” leaked a week early and then came in at No. 1. There’s been talk that positive reception to his leak spurred sales.

Drake: I agree. I think that giving people the opportunity to judge before they go and buy, I think that can only help. There’s a loyal fan base that’s gonna go and support you just based off the fact that they want to own a copy of your material, and they know what it means to give you that one sale, and they hope that there’s another hundred, two hundred, three hundred, four hundred, five hundred thousand people that are gonna do the same thing. And then there’s genuinely the people who heard it th...

Dereon UK Line Presented At London Fashion Week

Beyoncé and mom Tina Knowles made their hotly anticipated London Fashion Week debut on Saturday night, presenting their House of Deréon autumn/winter 2011 collection

Lets be honest, the Dereon UK line has never been overly popular in England so I'm sure the mother daughter team are hoping this show of force will help propel the line. The main question is, is this enough to have the average female buy the brand? The form of greenhouse designs are to an even greater extent organized down only 2: attached and the freestanding.

Freestanding Structures

When a greenhouse is supposed to be freestanding, this means that it can stand alone. This goes to show that this type of greenhouse design can be anchored in place away from the houses. This distinct type of greenhouse design can be set in an area where it can get the most amount of direct sunlight.

Since it is apart, it is advantageous to take note of the lighting, electrical, water supply to be established inside the greenhouse.

Here are a number of the accessible greenhouse designs for the freestanding category:

For a much more desirable interpretation, here is a list of some of the instances of these greenhouses:

1. Even-span

Unlike the established attached greenhouses, this distinctive design can be classified as a full-sized edifice of its own. However, it still has its 1 gable end fastened at a home or a structure. This is ordinarily done for improved equilibrium.

Since it has basically one gable end that is connected to a house, it details more space for the plants, thereby, creating more circulation within the area. Because of its area, it can even give housing for two to three benches.
