Common - Blue Sky (video)

The news that Common's next album (The Dreamer, The Believer) was going to feature exclusively No ID production could help to get any fan of his old work excited. This single seems to suggest that he is over whatever brain-fart produced Universal Mind Control, so the signs are that the LP (which is scheduled to drop in December) could see a welcome return to top form for Common.

Subject: R.Kelly' s Rep denies claims
Posted: Fri Aug 29, 2008 8:11 pm (GMT 0)

R. Kelly has denied involvement in an alleged $130,000 tour ticket scam. The singer has been accused of profiting from a fraud in South Africa after a local woman,

Busiswe Zakwe, was arrested on suspicion of swindling investors. It is claimed she promised them they would benefit from ticket sales if they brought an R. Kelly tour to the country in 2005. The concerts never happened, but Zakwe allegedly kept the money and deposited some of it into the star's bank account. But the singer denies any knowledge of the incident, and insists he doesn't even know who Zakwe is.

Method Man – All I Need (Demo Version)

Man oh man. Remember this classic? Ofcourse you do. Well, before the final version with MJB was layed down Method Man recorded a demo version. A whole different vibe, one verse from Meth with two females talking that sexy stuff before and after. This is exactly the purpose of a demo record, Meth recorded it and after a few listens and MJB’s opinion the record was then transformed into the classic we know it as now and went on too live on Meth’s 1994 album “Tical”. I love when stuff like this pops up out the vault, it gives you more of an insight into how records are created. Anything Meth related and I am down.

Rocawear as an urban clothing brand has proven their ability over the years to be considered one of the elite streetwear names in the Market today. The question now is, has Jay-Z and rocawears latest fashion endeavour gone beyond good business and into nothing more than greed. While many feel it was nothing more than a good business move by one of Hip Hops richest moguls. There is the other side of the coin that feel what Jay-z and Rocawear clothing have done, is exploited a situation for personal gain with no concern for how it looks to others. So What did they do? A Complete History Pertaining To Urban Clothing

Urban Clothing
constitutes some of the nine all-inclusive pieces of hip hop majesty. This design was a impressive practice of dressing, which produced from African-America, Caribbean-American and even Latino innocence circulating New York.

Urban clothing is additionally tied to hip hop songs which began in 1975 in Bronx in New York first and foremost through the influence of Jamaican immigrants. With the use of two turntables and a microphone, the Jamaican exercised disc-jockeys which gave birth to beloved music. The pioneers of disc-jockeys where Clive ''Hercules'' Campbell, or 'Kool Herc'' who built music out of break beats and Theodore 'grand Wizard' Livingstone who identified 'scratching sounds' from a turntable. These 2 fellows generated the source of rap music which has cultivated to what we delight as street music and gained so much publicity.

However along the passage, urban culture has been enriched by various cities' like Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Atlanta, Miami Los Angeles, Brooklyn cultures. As the rap music grew, so did the urban clothing. This precedent has become more and more popular getting much talked about acceptance. However the trend has witnessed changes over the years. This fashion of gear was first worn in the 1980s by big hip hop icons such as Run-DMC, Big Daddy Kane and LL cool J. The outline was characterized by an assortment of rings, jewellery, gold necklaces which are lately known as 'bling bling'. Big glasses and sneakers also formed a large portion of the frame. Urban artist also wore Jheri curls or hi-top fade haircuts. The black pride advance was no doubt one of the most influential means of the hip hop framework in the 1980s. It was symbolized by African chains, dreadlocks, black-green- and red clothes.

The urban clothing of the 1980s reflected the established African culture developed by rappers like MC Hammer. The 1990s came with a change in hip hop music which led to the change in the urban clothing. Singers like Left Eye of TLC called attention to colored apparel and baseball caps. Street gangs and prison uniforms also favorably inclined the hip hop attire. Baggy pants wear was influenced by the prison inmates 'fashion'. Normally the inmates had their belts confiscated by prison wardens and because their uniforms barely fitted them, they were reduced to pulling up their pants every now and then. Cities have also been helpful to the increase of the urban street clothing with preference of some wear over others. New York favored hooded clothes and timberland boots while west coast went for big flannel shirts and converse sneakers and the south liked gold teeth style.

In mid 1990s, urban clothing brands were enriched by the Mafioso fashion characterized by hats and alligator skin shoes promoted by stars like the Notorious B.I.G and Jay-Z. At the end of 1990s the taste of hip hop stars changed to brilliant, flashy suits and platinum jewellery which took the place of gold and gave urban clothing a new feature. During this duration, several clothing lines like FUBU, Sean John and Karl Kani were rolled out and through the sale of hip hop clothes earned millions of dollars. Over the cycle urban clothing tastes for males and females have modernized.

Though individuals have kept the old hip hop clothing custom, womenfolk have embraced tighter jeans and gleaming appearances. Women have contributed a feminine touch to urban clothing by sporting lip gloss and make up. At this time the trend goes apart from clothes to include giant tags made of gold or other high-priced material dangling from chains, large eye glasses and famed haircuts all of which emphasize affluence and prestige. Is Jay-Z Profiting from Occupy Wall Street?

In what surely seems like a a cruel joke, it’s being reported by Business Insider that Jay-Z is going to potentially be profiting off of the Occupy Wall Street protest that has captured the heart of the 99 percent. Through his Rocawear clothing imprint, Jay has plastered the Occupy Wall Street message on a T-shirt that’s currently available for pre-order via the brand’s website. Thus far, there are no plans of distributing any of the earnings from it to the movement that he’s capitalizing off of. As a member of the top 1 percent, it seems like Jay-Z’s 99 problems involve the other 99 percent. What do you guys think, should Jay-Z be profiting from a movement that is looking to expose the disparity between rich and poor? Rocawear

Drake’s Producer Noah “40″ Shebib Shares Stories Behind Their Most Personal Records

Drake’s Producer Noah “40″ Shebib Shares Stories Behind Their Most Personal Records

GQ’s Sean Fennessey did a real eye opening interview with Drake’s longtime friend, engineer and producer, Noah “40″ Shebib. This fellow Canadian has been with Drizzy for pretty much his whole rise from the bottom to the top of hip-hop.

In the interview 40 discusses how they first met and linked up musically. He also talks in detail about the backstories behind some of their most personal records and the influences that made So Far Gone, Thank Me Later and Take Care.

GQ: It just seemed like a modern innovation on the sound. It makes sense that’s what you love. You can hear it. What about “The Calm”?
Noah “40″ Shebib:
He rapped that story out a couple times. Lyrics can be interpreted as you want, but his life is transparent through his lyrics, and it’s pretty brutally honest and it’s scary how much is there. He explained the story a couple times, briefly about this album. It was a crazy, crazy night. That was when we were living in an apartment building in Toronto, downtown, Apartment 1503 15 Fort York Boulevard. He says 1503, two couches and paintings, and he goes on to talk about that apartment where we did all that music, on the new album. He was distraught one night and showed up with $1,000 worth of champagne and I’m cussing at him because we’re all broke and trying to make this shit work! Meanwhile, he’s renting Phantoms and shit. It’s all documented. He shows up with all the liquor and he’s drinking and we’re trying to start working and he gets into a real argument with his uncle, and he went out on the balcony and started yelling at his uncle and I’d never seen him that distraught or emotionally beat up about something. He just came back in the room and said, I need to rap. Make me something. In 45 minutes, I made “The Calm” and he wrote those bars as I made the beat. Over the next five or six hours, that record unfolded in its entirety.

GQ: Tell me about some specific songs on So Far Gone. “Bria’s Interlude” has always fascinated me. Drake doesn’t even appear on the song.

Drake Actually Looks Forward to His Album Leaks: “It’s Only Gonna Help Me”

Drake Actually Looks Forward to His Album Leaks: “It’s Only Gonna Help Me”

Drizzy has been taking his album leak in stride. He already addressed it briefly on Twitter. Much like J. Cole, he’s thankful it leaked with only 8 days left before Take Care’s official release. Back in October, Billboard actually presented Drake with this very scenario and asked his thoughts on his albums leaking early.

“I look forward to leaks-knock on wood. I shouldn’t probably, but I do. Like I said, if it’s a reasonable leak, I look forward to it. We’re all sitting here in the studio like, “Oh man the night this leaks, it’s gonna be so crazy!” People talk about, “Are you gonna go on the Internet? Are you gonna stay off the Internet? What are you gonna do?”

40 protects the music really well, and I think God willing I get like the same thing I’m talking about, like a 10 day leak. And that’s something I’d be extremely excited about because I feel like if people get the opportunity to live with the music for a week before they go buy it, it’s only gonna help me, not hurt me. So I’m looking forward to hearing the feedback from everyone-that’s gonna be an exciting night when it comes out.

Billboard: J. Cole’s album “Cole World: A Sideline Story” leaked a week early and then came in at No. 1. There’s been talk that positive reception to his leak spurred sales.

Drake: I agree. I think that giving people the opportunity to judge before they go and buy, I think that can only help. There’s a loyal fan base that’s gonna go and support you just based off the fact that they want to own a copy of your material, and they know what it means to give you that one sale, and they hope that there’s another hundred, two hundred, three hundred, four hundred, five hundred thousand people that are gonna do the same thing. And then there’s genuinely the people who heard it th...
